Honoring Italy’s Culinary Heritage: Palazzo di Varignana at the UNESCO Nomination Dinner in New York
At Palazzo di Varignana, we are deeply connected to the traditions, craftsmanship, and flavors that define Italian excellence. This past June, we were honored to take part in a remarkable evening in New York City in which we celebrated the nomination of Italian cuisine to be inscribed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
A Celebration of Italy’s Culinary Heritage
On June 28, our award-winning extra virgin olive oils were proudly featured in the exquisite dishes crafted by @chef_giancarloperbellini, one of Italy’s most celebrated chefs. The event, hosted at Gotham Hall during the Summer Fancy Food Show, brought together international guests, industry leaders, and culinary visionaries to honor Italy’s timeless food culture and its living traditions.
The dinner was a tribute to the values that define Italianità: connection to the land, respect for ingredients, and the art of transforming simple gestures into something extraordinary. Each dish reflected the essence of Italian cuisine.
The UNESCO Nomination: A Global Recognition of Italian Excellence
Italy officially submitted its nomination in March 2023, aiming to recognize Italian cuisine as a cultural treasure that transcends borders. Defined as “a set of social practices, rituals, and gestures based on local skills that, without hierarchies, identify and signify it,” this proposal highlights how food in Italy is an expression of identity and community.
If accepted, the announcement is expected by the end of 2025, marking a milestone in the global appreciation of Italy’s culinary legacy.
Our Passion for Sharing the Excellence of Italy
For us at Palazzo di Varignana, participating in this event was both an honor and a reflection of our mission, to share the authentic excellence of Italy with the world. Our olive oils, embody the same values celebrated at the dinner: sustainability, authenticity, and a deep respect for nature and tradition.
You can relive the evening and discover more in our Instagram post. As we look ahead with hope for Italy’s recognition by UNESCO, we remain inspired to continue celebrating and sharing the culinary legacy of Italy.
